What Virgil Abloh Joining Louis Vuitton Means for Fashion

Major news in the fashion industry this week: Virgil Abloh has been appointed creative director for Louis Vuitton Menswear.  This news doesn't just mean that we have a new collection to look forward to, it's proof that fashion as we know it has changed forever.

Virgil being a part of Louis Vuitton means:

  1. Menswear is finally being taken seriously. Further proof of this is Heidi Silmane launching menswear at Céline.
  2. High fashion isn't just for the elite anymore. The streetwear kids are the ones calling the shots now.
  3. Streetwear isn't just a trend, it's a movement. The founder of one of the biggest streetwear labels wouldn't become the creative director for one of the biggest luxury labels if this wasn't true.
  4. The fashion industry is slowly but surely becoming more diversified. There are only a handful of non-white designers within the fashion industry, but Virgil just upped the headcount.
